HELLO -
WISH I COULD HELP YOU, BUT I HAVE ONLY MY BAILEY GRANDPARENTS IN OREGON.ORIGINALLY THEY CAME FROM YORKSHIRE, ENGLAND.  MY 8TH GREAT CAME TOAMERICA IN 1638 AND LIVED IN ROWLEY, MA UNTIL HE DIED.  I HAVE TRACED HIMBACK TO HIS PARENTS, GRANDPARENTS AND -GRAND PARENTS.BACK AS FAR ASIRELAND IN ABOUT 1490.,  IT TOOK A LONG TIME TO GET A LOT OF THE INFORMATIONCONFIRMED, BUT IT WAS WORTH IT AND I THINK YOU WILL, TOO, IF Y OU CAN FINDANY ASSISTANCE.  HAVE YOU TRIED DNA TESTING?  I DID AND IT PAID OFF FOR ME.I VISITED ROWLEYL, MA IN 2005 AND FOUND THE GRAVES OF MY 8TH GREAT GRANDFATHERAND MOTHER, THOUGH WEATHER OVER THE YEARS HAD TAKEN ITS TOLL ON THE GRAVEMARKINGS.  BUT IT HAS BEEN TOTALLY CONFIRMED BY THE DNA INFORMATION.  HOPEYOU FARE BETTER THAN YOU HAVE, BUT IT WILL BE WORTH IT EVEN IF YOU DON'[T FINDTHE WHOLE PICTURE.  GOOD LUCK...

To whomever is holding on to Or-Roots and giving us what info is available or advice on how to still use it effectively,  THANKYOU. I have always enjoyed what ever news was posted. I have Shirley/Spohn ancestry connected closely to Oregon History. I got quite a bit of valuable help from a number of researchers in my fledging years as I began tracing my Grandparents family history. It was so helpful. I am not sure what I would have done without this help. Thanks again.   Dale Shirley  daleshir at comcast.net

Glen

This is the "e-list" for folks interested in Oregon History and Genealogy, sponsored by the Oregon Archives/SoS.

If you received this "general request for information" understand it is not addressed specifically to you, but to everyone. In fact, I just answered it myself.

Sometimes people join email lists without knowing just what they are, or maybe it's been so quiet you forgot it was here!

I hope you can find some use for it in researching your Oregon Ancestors.

DEAR JEFF -

I DON'T KNOW HOW OR WHEREYOU GOT MY E-MAIL ADDRESS, BUT I KNOW NOTHING

WHATSOVER OF THE NAMES YOU HAD IN YOUR E-MAIL TO ME.  I RESEARCHED MY BAILEY

FAMILIES BACK TO YORKSHIRE ENGLAND SEVERAL YEARS AGO AND HAVE TRACED THEM

BACK TO THE 1400'S  MY WIFE CAME FROM A FAMILY NAMED DEMOSS.  SHE IS DESCENDED

FROM A PETER DEMOSS BORN IN 1788 IN VIRGINIA TO PRESENT TIME.  SHE IS ALSO

DESCENDED FROM THE TOWNSENDS OF CENTRAL ENGLAND.  THEY WERE MARQUESSAS

AND HAVE A MASSIVE RESIDENCE CALLED RAYNHAM HALL IN NORFOLK.  I AM WONDERING

IF POSSIBLY YOU WERE CORRESPONDING EARLIER WITH SOMEONE ELSE AS I HAVE NO

MEMORY OF ANY E-MAILS FROM YOU - EVER.

     SORRY,  GLEN BAILEY, PORTLAND, OREGON
