I had to go into the stacks to check for something else so I took a quick peek at the Deschutes County death certificate for  January 29th 1951.  The certificate is for a two month old child of Opal and her first husband, Charles Henry O’Doherty.  Hope this resolves some of the confusion on this family.

Marriage returns for both these marriages if they occurred in Oregon are available at the Archives.  Scanned images of these records have recently been added to Ancestry if you have a subscription.  There should be a Divorce return for the O’Doherty’s in our holdings as well.  Unfortunately these two records series are not indexed on our online index.  The record you did find for the marriage in Jefferson County is for the County Clerk’s records that came to us from the County in the past few years.

Trying to pin down a birth date for my Daughter-in-law's maternal Aunt Connie and I have a bit of a conundrum;

Father;     Howard Francis Gossman   I have all the info I need on him, birth death date of funeral and marraige to;

Mother; (presumably)   Opal Marie Schrautemier

19 October 1958  Bend, Deschutes Co., Oregon; In the marriage index she is Opal O'doherty

the marriage is listed  without the Marie in his obituary and here is where it get interesting; I find Opal M. a waitress at Superior Cafe in bend in the 1946 phone book, and living with the widow Mildred (Mrs Virgil H) and sister Betty who is a phone operator at Miller Ave.

The problem is I find an online genealogy for this Opal listing her as deceased  in 1951 even though it also has her marriage to Howard.

The family is very elusive in official records in Minnesota where they move in 1959 and I find no record of Opal in any of my sources marrying an Odoherty in Oregon, or elsewhere, I do find this;

but I don't have access to the original to find his name. There is a Harry living with his parents John and Mary on Roosevelt, but searching them is no good either.

I just realized if I send this without looking in the archives Layne will probably have strong words for me and lo and behold;

That adds to the confusion since the index and his obit both list Deschutes county??

Usually I can pin down at least a date of birth though not always correct by searching public records, but the only Opal Gossman lving with a Howard that I find is born in 1978 which would make it just about as hard for her to be the one married in 1958 as it would be for the one dead in 1951.

The daughter of Mildred and Virgil is born about 1929 in Nebraska.

So essentially what I am asking is if anyone can find who the Opel Marie Schrautemier or whatever who died 29 Jan 1951 Deschutes, Oregon. If she is the daughter of Mildred and Virgil I am really lost.
