I don't think I can help you with your family, but congratulations on
finding your birth family. I had a similar situation with my cousin and
his brother were adopted out of the family when their mother died. I was a
year older than him but I still remember going to his mother's funeral. I
looked for him for many years. His brother stayed in the family but went
to my father's step brother so I always knew where he was. Finally about
five years ago on the Ancestry DNA site there was a match but the person
had no tree. I contacted him (because you could do that then, not now) and
asked him about his family. He answered back, "I don't know, I was
adopted" anyway long story short we connected and I sent him pictures of
his birth family including one when he was only about two years old. I
wish it had a happy ending but unfortunately about two years ago he was
killed in a head on car accident. I am thankful that I at least got to
finally find him. He had a closed adoption and had even hired a private
detective to help him find his birth parents. Finally his best friend told
him to take the DNA test. It showed up on St. Patrick's day that year.
Another very lucky thing for me was that I had my mother's DNA tested and
it revealed that the man she thought was her father, was really her step
father. Her mother never married her father because he was shipped off to
WWI before she even knew she was pregnant. I now have several new cousins
with one of them being a first cousin who lives in Portland. I have yet to
meet her in person but we have talked on the phone.
I just love genealogy.
Dale
P.S. my grandmother grew up in Milton Freewater.
