Hi Lindsay,
Although we are not using ¡Cuídate! In Wisconsin as we initially intended, I did share your question with our training and fidelity monitor who has a lot of experience implementing it. Here is her response. Hopefully it will help some : )
Hi Nancy;
No, I do not know much about adaptations to Cuídate for Native communities but I can easily see it happening. Not that I am an expert at culture and values but it has been my experience that disenfranchised communities have more similarities than differences in their culture and values. Respect, family, gender roles and religion are values that have huge impact, whether we recognize it or not, on who we are , what we do and how we live. Cuidate's goal is to have participants gain knowledge about HIV and other sexual and reproductive health education AND discuss and be conscious of how cultural values impact your ability or inability to stay safe, healthy and make decisions. I would say this can easily be adapted to any population and culture but the language would need to be adapted to resonate with the audience. I think the art work would even work with Native Americans.
Thanks for keeping me informed in in the loop.
Maria

Subject: [Prep] Question: Cuídate for AI/AN youth
Good Morning All,
We are looking into adapting ¡Cuídate! for our tribal communities. Has anyone adapted ¡Cuídate! for Native American youth that could share adaptions or lessons learned?
Can you email me at Lindsay.weaver at state.or.us<mailto:Lindsay.weaver at state.or.us>
Thank you,
Lindsay
