RE: CCSS and Oregon's Alternate Assessment: Overview & Opportunity

Per Oregon's 2010 adoption of the Common Core State Standards (CCSS) and its commitment to the outcomes of the Smarter Balanced Assessment Consortium (SBAC)--to ensure instruction is aligned to the CCSS and subsequent alternate assessments are reliable, valid, and can be used for accountability purposes--the Oregon Department of Education has joined the National Center and State Collaborative (NCSC) alternate assessment consortium as a Tier II state.

In light of the above, the Oregon Department of Education is in the process of identifying the following Special Education Teachers and Technical Assistance Providers/Consultants who would be willing to become a member of Oregon's Community of Practice and serve as beta testers and evaluators of Curriculum and Instruction and Professional Development modules that we anticipate being delivered to us electronically this Fall, 2012:

*       Special Education Teachers Needed:

o   Early Childhood (1-2), Elementary (4-5), Middle School (4-5), High School (4-5)

*       Technical Assistance Providers/Consultants Needed:

o Speech pathologist, OT, PT, Vision, Hearing, Inclusion specialist, Content Experts

If you or someone you know would be interested and have the aforementioned training and experience to help out, please contact Brad Lenhardt at Brad.Lenhardt at state.or.us<mailto:Brad.Lenhardt at state.or.us>. In addition to ensuring the administration of the current alternate (Extended) Assessments to any/all students identified by their IEP teams to participate in them, Districts and ESDs are permitted to use remaining Extended Assessment sub grants to support the participation of ODE-identified licensed staff in this transition effort.
