Hello National DPP Lifestyle Coaches and CDC-Recognized Organizations,
Are you looking to enhance your National DPP offerings? We have an exciting opportunity for someone from your organization to attend a Group Coaching Certificate Program. Participation in this program will enhance your knowledge and skills to confidently implement group facilitation and behavior change methods.
As a recipient of the CDC's 2320 grant, OHA's Health Promotion and Chronic Disease Prevention Section of the Public Health Division has funds to sponsor TWO Oregon National DPP Lifestyle Coaches to attend the program (a value of $2500 per participant). The training options have been approved by CDC to use the grant funds to cover participation.
Program Details:
* Two different options, one offered by the JMoss Foundation (starts January 2026) and one offered by Emory University's Diabetes Training and Technical Assistance Center (DTTAC) (starts February 2026)
* Both options are offered virtually via Zoom and meet weekly for approximately 6 months
* Participants must have at least one year of experience offering the National DPP
For more information, see the attached flyer for the DTTAC option, and this webpage for the JMoss Foundation<https://mailchi.mp/jmossfoundation/o421mjzfpr> option.
If you have had at least one year of experience offering the National DPP and would like to apply for sponsorship to attend the training, please apply by December 5, 2025 by clicking here<https://forms.office.com/g/d9quc4GiAx>.
Note: The application due December 5, 2025 is for sponsorship to the training. If you do not need sponsorship, you can contact JMoss and DTTAC directly to register and you do not need to work with our program to do so. We will notify applicants of your status by December 19th, if you are selected for one of the two sponsored slots, you will still need to register for the training with JMoss or DTTAC and we can coordinate payment together.
This is a great opportunity to increase the impact of the National DPP program, and for professional development of the Lifestyle Coaches in attendance. Another note: I pasted information sent to us by the CDC earlier this year describing the training.
Let me know if you have any questions!
Thanks,
Lizzie

SUBJ: NEW Advanced Training Opportunity: The National DPP Group Coaching Certificate Program
Are you interested in participating in a new advanced training opportunity to improve your group facilitation and coaching skills as a Lifestyle Coach? Then the National Diabetes Prevention Program (National DPP) Group Coaching Certificate Program might be for you! Read on to learn more.
Background Information
After 4 years of development and pilot testing, CDC's National DPP Team is excited to offer the National DPP Group Coaching Certificate Program to all training entities and therefore all Lifestyle Coaches. The Group Coaching Certificate Program was developed in partnership with the American College of Preventive Medicine (ACPM), National Board for Health & Wellness Coaching (NBHWC), and the National Board of Medical Examiners (NBME). CDC, ACPM, NBHWC, and NBME have been working diligently to develop this advanced skills training program for National DPP Lifestyle Coaches based on the best evidence and practices for group-based health and wellness coaching.
The training consists of 4 components that coaches must complete to achieve the certificate: (1) Online Prework, (2) Live Training Sessions, (3) Exam, and (4) Training Evaluation. The training covers five coaching competency categories:
* Category I: Building Trust, Rapport, and Intimacy, and Creating Coaching Presence
* Category II: Enhancing Communication Skills
* Category III: Applying Skills Specific to Groups
* Category IV: Cultivating Self-Management Skills
* Category V: Propelling Health Behavior Change
Lifestyle Coaches who complete all the online lessons and live training sessions and pass the exam will earn the special designation of Group Coaching Specialist to acknowledge the intensive training they completed.
We have piloted the Group Coaching Certificate Program three times, to test the effectiveness of the program and to iron out any kinks, making improvements with each pilot. Through evaluation results, we now know it has a positive impact on improvement in coaches' skills, lifestyle change program participants' retention rates and achievement of type 2 diabetes risk reduction measures, and coaches' perceptions of how the program helped them become a more confident coach. We are now opening it up to all training entities, allowing Lifestyle Coaches to be able to advance their group coaching competencies and skills for delivering the National DPP Lifestyle Change Program.
Training Details
2026 Participating Training Entities (starting sometime in Q1 of 2026):

* Time Commitment: Coaches will be required to complete online prework and attend 1 live training session per week for about 6 months with a variety of training schedules to choose from. Live sessions last either 60, 90, or 120 minutes, depending on the session content. Holiday breaks are built into the schedule and there will be options for makeup sessions.
