[Self-sufficiencypartners] ODHS monitoring the potential for a federal government shutdown

Dear Self-Sufficiency Programs Partners,
The U.S. Congress must pass funding bills and the president must sign them into law by midnight on Saturday, Sept. 30, 2023 to avoid a partial federal government shutdown. Without agreement, federal government funding expires Oct. 1. The Oregon Department of Human Services (ODHS) is monitoring the situation and preparing for a possible shutdown.
This news is concerning for all of us that provide services to people in Oregon and the families who depend on our supports and services.
As Congress works to approve a budget, here's what partners should know. Please share this information with the people you serve who may have questions and fears about the potential federal government shutdown:

  *   ODHS will continue to provide services and supports as usual in October 2023.
  *   People will receive their regular October medical, food, cash and child care benefits on time and just like they normally do. They do not need to do anything extra to get these benefits.
  *   We will work to make sure people know about any delays to benefits, services and supports if the federal government shutdown continues beyond October 2023.
  *   Our partners at Oregon Health Authority (OHA) have shared that a possible shutdown would not impact their Oregon Women, Infants and Children (WIC) Program. WIC will remain open<https://www.oregon.gov/oha/ph/healthypeoplefamilies/wic/pages/index.aspx> and people should keep their WIC appointments and continue using their eWIC card at any WIC store or pharmacy.
