The annual conference of the Oregon Association for Talented and Gifted (OATAG) will take place from  8:30 am until 6:00 pm on Saturday, October 22, 2011 on the beautiful campus of Reed College in Portland.

The conference theme is "Assessing and Identifying Gifted Learners."  The conference will feature a keynote speech by Dr. David Lohman, Professor of Psychological & Quantitative Foundations, in the College of Education at the University of Iowa.

The Identification of Gifted Children: Lessons learned, visions for the future

Dr Lohman is one of the country's foremost experts on student assessment and co-authored the Cognitive Abilities Test commonly known as the "CogAT" .  He will also be offering two breakout sessions at the conference.
Although the conference keynote is on identification there are many current topics of interest to parents and educators.
Other conference topics include:

-- Breakout sessions on assessment, perfectionism, gifted middle-school students, online options and many other topics
--Lunch with theme discussions
--An activities area for children 8 and over sponsored by Mensa

--Optional tours of Reed College

--Vendors and community organizations

--A "State of the State - in Oregon Talented and Gifted Education" presentation by the Oregon TAG Specialist, Rebecca  Blocher

--Professional Development Units will be available
