Program Overview:
The Hepatitis B Coalition of Washington state (HBCW) is dedicated to
preventing and reducing hepatitis B disease and its complications through
innovation, education, and community partnership. Educational and awareness
activities are designed, implemented, and evaluated with active engagement
from priority populations in which the incidence of hepatitis B is
disproportionately high, primarily those born in Asia and Africa and the
providers who serve them. HBCW at the local, state, and national level with
individuals and community based organizations (CBOs) to identify gaps,
opportunities, and culturally appropriate strategies.
General Job Description:
The primary responsibility of the Program Coordinator is to facilitate the
continued development and coordination of this statewide coalition and its
various projects and initiatives. Additionally, this person will use
his/her existing relationships and knowledge of the priority populations,
with a specific emphasis on the African-born immigrant and refugee
communities, to cultivate and sustain collaborations and emerging
relationships. The HBCW Program Coordinator must demonstrate cultural
competence and sensitivity in building and maintaining such partnerships in
order to produce community-driven initiatives.
Primary Responsibilities:
Program Planning & Coordination
· Develop and strengthen partnerships with priority populations,
primarily African-born immigrants and refugees, and those health care and
social service providers who serve them.
· Coordinate, implement, and evaluate community-based projects with
such partners in accordance with HBCW’s strategic plan.
· Assist the HBCW Program Manager and Advisory Committee to update
and implement HBCW’s strategic plan and individual project work plans.
· Support HBCW meetings and events, write and distribute meeting
minutes, and facilitate follow-up activities and tasks.
· Coordinate HBCW’s Annual Hepatitis B Forum.
Communications
· Support the development and maintenance of hepatitis B educational
materials.
· Represent HBCW at various local and state meetings.
· Coordinate media and outreach communication for HBCW as
appropriate.
· Assist with updating and maintaining HBCW website.
Administrative
· Maintain HBCW email distribution list.
· Assist in writing grants and progress reports, and soliciting
in-kind support.
· Assist with budget analysis and tracking.
Qualifications:
· Bachelor’s Degree in Public Health, Public Administration, Health
Education, Social Work or related field required. Master’s Degree
preferred.
· 2-4 years experience in program planning/management required.
· Knowledgeable of priority populations, especially African-born
immigrants and refugees, and related providers and organizations in Puget
Sound.
· Committed to and knowledgeable of cultural competence, health
disparities, and social justice theories and related community efforts.
· Demonstrated experience in community organizing in the public
health field and with priority populations.
· Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities, effective time
management skills, and exercise sound judgment.
Required Skills:
· Knowledge of African cultures and languages a plus, specifically
Ethiopian, Eritrean, Somali, and/or Kenyan/Tanzanian.
· Knowledge of hepatitis B prevention, treatment, and care, and
related diseases preferred.
· Experience in and application of cultural competence, social
justice, and health disparities theories and practices.
· Excellent interpersonal skills, ability to achieve consensus of
varying opinions, organize and mobilize diverse people and resources to
achieve a common goal. Experience working with volunteers and community
agencies.
· Excellent organizational and time management skills; strong
oral/written communication skills.
· Experience in group facilitation, decision-making processes and
meeting management.
· Experience collecting and analyzing data.
· Ability to be flexible and work both independently and
collaboratively.
· Ability to work some evenings and weekends, as needed.
· Self-starter and an independent learner.
· Proficiency in MS Office required.
This is a part-time position that requires access to a car and a valid
driver’s license and may require day/overnight travel.
Salary & Benefits: $30,000 -$35,000 DOE (.75 FTE - 30 hours/week)
