Elevator Upgrade Project in Full Swing

[Elevator]<https://www.oregon.gov/osl/LTLO/FullSizeImages/Elevator.JPG>The State Library's main elevator is getting a much-needed makeover. The elevator is from the late 1930s, with many mechanical parts from the 1960s. Straight Up Elevator, Code Electric, and Cedar Mill Construction Company have been putting in long hours at the State Library to carry out this large project. The elevator car and doors will be kept as close to the original as possible, while the mechanics will be modern. The elevator will also feature a bronze state seal on the floor. During the construction, we have been using our stairs and our freight elevator. We have an intercom on the first floor to call a staff member for visitors requiring assistance. We look forward to having an upgraded elevator.

New Exhibit Celebrates Fujian-Oregon Library Cooperation

[SisterLibraries]<https://www.oregon.gov/osl/LTLO/FullSizeImages/SisterLibraries.jpg>A new exhibit, "Sister Libraries: 30 years of International Friendship and Exchange<http://www.oregon.gov/osl/Pages/ExhibitOnDisplay.aspx>," is now on display in the second floor lobby of the Oregon State Library. The exhibit chronicles the history of the fruitful relationship between the libraries of Fujian Province in China and the libraries of Oregon that began with Rosalind Wang's (then Education Librarian at Portland State University) visit in March 1987. This led to a formal "Sister Library" agreement between the Fujian Provincial Library and the Oregon State Library that was signed in 1989. Since then, there have been container-sized shipments of books to libraries in Fujian from Oregon libraries, and 36 Horner Exchange library staff visitors between the two states. The exhibit features local craft items and books donated to the State Library from the libraries of Fujian. The exhibit is on view during office hours: Monday-Friday, 8 a.m. - 5 p.m.

Become an Answerland Partner Library

[AnswerlandLogo]<https://answerland.org/>Answerland<https://answerland.org/>, Oregon's statewide collaborative virtual reference service, is seeking new partner libraries. This service, which was recently described by a patron as "a refreshing exhibit of professional excellence in an online service," relies on the contributions of partner libraries across Oregon to bring 24/7 reference assistance to Oregonians.

Partner libraries reap many benefits in return for their contributions to Answerland. These include enhancing your library's reference offerings through expanded service hours and access to software for local use; saving time and money through shared staffing, purchasing, marketing, and training; helping to serve the citizens of Oregon by contributing subject matter expertise; and sharing knowledge and expertise statewide with other reference librarians.

For more information, see Become a Partner Library<https://answerland.org/get-involved/become-a-partner-library/> or contact the Answerland Coordinator, Tamara Ottum<mailto:tamara.ottum at state.or.us> (503-378-6506).
