Accredited Financial Counselor Certification Scholarship - 2018

The Smart About Money<https://www.smartaboutmoney.org/> consumer program at the National Endowment for Financial Education (NEFE) is offering three scholarships in 2018 for qualified librarians to pursue the Accredited Financial Counselor (AFC) certification<http://www.afcpe.org/certification-and-training/accredited-financial-counselor> with the Association for Financial Counseling and Planning Education (AFCPE).

Purpose
The goals of this continuing education scholarship opportunity are as follows:

  *   Educate the librarian on critical concepts in personal finance.
  *   Increase the impact of library financial literacy programming by expanding the librarian's knowledge and understanding.
  *   Enhance the librarian's ability to discern and evaluate financial education resources available to them.

About the AFC Certification
The AFC certification process is intended to prepare professionals to educate and assist clients or students, helping them set and meet financial goals and achieve financial well-being through counseling and education.
"Abilities of the AFC:

  *   Educate clients in sound financial principles.
  *   Assist clients in the process of overcoming their financial indebtedness.
  *   Help clients identify and modify ineffective money management behaviors.
  *   Guide clients in developing successful strategies for achieving their financial goals.
  *   Support clients as they work through their financial challenges and opportunities.

Who is Eligible?
This opportunity is aimed at early to mid-career professionals at libraries who are engaged with financial literacy programming. Participants should be full-time employees at a library. Applicants with limited background or training in financial education are encouraged to apply.

What Expenses are Eligible?
If selected, the recipient will receive a $1,300 scholarship to study for and complete the AFC examination. This includes:

  *   Enrollment fee ($50)
  *   Course materials for the self-study educational track ($575)
  *   One exam registration fee ($675). Exam to be taken by or before October 31, 2019.
Webinar reviews, additional materials, and multiple exam re-takes will not be covered.
