Located in Portland, Oregon, one of the nation's most livable cities,

The Emerging Technologies Librarian and Head of Library Technologies is an
unclassified, Non-Tenure Track Faculty with Continuous Appointment position
that leads the Library Technologies unit. Initial rank is Senior Instructor
I. This position is excluded from union representation due to assigned
responsibilities. This position reports to an Assistant University
Librarian.



The Emerging Technologies Librarian and Head of Library Technologies
collaborates with colleagues throughout the Library and across campus on
Library technology projects and initiatives that support the University’s
mission. The position contributes to the educational and research role of
the Library through participation in the development and implementation of
policies, plans, and programs, coordinating and cooperating with all areas
as appropriate. Provides leadership and promotes awareness of new and
emerging technologies to improve the patron experience, library services,
workflows, and support for research, student learning, and library
curriculum.



This position is a key role in the leadership of the Library’s information
technology infrastructure and services. Responsibilities include
supervising Library Technologies staff, short- and long-term planning, and
prioritizing and coordinating unit projects and activities. This position
oversees library technology systems and projects and works with unit staff,
programmers, system vendors, librarians, staff, the University’s Office of
Information Technology, and library users to evaluate, develop, implement,
maintain, and support a range of systems. This position serves as the
system administrator for the Library’s shared integrated library system
(SILS).



Major services and systems currently include: the Library’s SILS, the
Library’s website and integrated web-based platforms, servers, and
interfaces; the Library’s cloud-based systems; user authentication;
applications for interlibrary loan, course reserves, and Special
Collections operations; the PSU digital repository and special collections
infrastructure; long-term and archival-level digital storage solutions;
instructional technology; and provision of staff and public computing.



The Emerging Technologies Librarian and Head of Library Technologies
collaborates closely with, and serves in a liaison role to, the Office of
Information Technology and participates in, or leads, Orbis Cascade
Alliance teams and work groups. This position also manages and/or
participates in special projects as assigned.

*Minimum Qualifications*

   - ALA-accredited MLS or its equivalent.
   - Minimum of three (3) years of professional experience in the
   management and maintenance of computing systems in an academic library.
   - Demonstrated knowledge of issues and trends related to information
   technologies.
   - Demonstrated collaboration with library or campus colleagues on
   technology driven projects
   - Working knowledge and/or experience managing Web sites and digital
   resources.
   Demonstrated experience with budgeting, planning, and/or project
   management, including the ability to prioritize and complete tasks in
   relation to goals and objectives.
   - Evidence of excellent oral, written, interpersonal communication
   skills.
   - Ability to successfully pass a background check.



*Preferred Qualifications         *

·         Demonstrated personnel management experience, including hiring,
training, and evaluation of staff.

·         Experience with Ex Libris Primo and Alma systems, OCLC’s ILLiad
system, and library digitization projects.

·         Knowledge of Web technologies, standards, and software; Unix and
Windows operating systems; library information technology standards and
protocols; proxy servers and remote patron authentication; database design,
administration and reporting; common programming and scripting languages;
and metadata standards.

·         Experience working in a library consortium



*Compensation*

The annual salary rate for this position starts at $73,000 with an
excellent benefits package including 95% premium paid healthcare; a
generous retirement and vacation package; and reduced tuition rates for
employee, spouse or dependent at any of the Oregon Public Universities.
