Job Opening: Associate Research Informationist, Kaiser Permanente Center for Health Research, Portland, Oregon
Description:
The Associate Research Informationist position at Kaiser Permanente's Center for Health Research (CHR)  exists to (1) provide customized analysis of information needs and develop and perform rigorous, complex, tailored systematic review and other searches for CHR project teams, (2) provide reference and information-based services for CHR investigators and staff, (3) maximize the utility of the Library's intranet, and (4) provide expertise in areas including, but not limited to, information surveillance, information retrieval for evidence-based practice, copyright, grey literature, scholarly publishing, and trends in technology to support research.
Essential Responsibilities:
* Provides customized analysis of information needs and develops and performs rigorous, complex, tailored systematic review and other searches for CHR project teams. Provides key support for and works closely with investigators and project teams to develop advanced information retrieval strategies identifying data, previous research, systematic reviews, and research gaps. Conducts active information surveillance to inform the United States Preventive Services Task Force topic nomination process. Identifies and conducts searches in unpublished (grey) literature resources such as clinical trial registries, conference abstracts, and FDA approval documents. Provides guidance in topic scoping, taxonomies and feasibility to inform information retrieval strategies. Recommends and implements changes to projects' methodologies, including the storage and organization of data and search results. Creates tailored literature alert services.

* Provides reference and information-based services for CHR investigators and staff. Solves bibliographic problems and provides guidance in citation formatting. Obtains statistics and factual information. Provides analysis and recommendations of targeted journals for prospective manuscript submission.

* Monitors and appraises recent research findings for CHR investigators, staff, and projects. Maintains awareness of new methods to identify emerging research trends, including literature monitoring activities.

* Provides instructional and consultation services for CHR investigators and staff. Leads one-on-one or group instruction to assist users in accessing and searching electronic resources. Designs, develops, and implements instructional handouts.

* Expands and maintains the library's intranet.

* Serves as backup to the Library Manager by providing advanced professional information services. Performs other duties as requested.
Basic Qualifications:
Experience
* Minimum five (5) years of professional library experience.
Education
* Master's degree in library science.
Additional Requirements:
* Experience with developing and executing rigorous searches as part of a systematic review team.
* Understanding the systematic review process.
* Strong internet and online bibliographic database searching skills.
* Understanding of medical terminology.
* Ability to document work processes.
* Working knowledge of HTML and web editor software.
* Working knowledge of standard office software.
* Ability to work both independently and with a collaborative team.
* Excellent oral and written communication skills.
* Strong interpersonal and customer-service skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
* Minimum five (5) years of professional library experience in a medical, health, or research setting
* Familiarity with emerging research trends, including literature monitoring activities.
* Experience with searching for grey literature.
* Experience with EndNote or similar bibliographic management software.
