Greetings!

[cid:image002.jpg at 01D73D9D.6BD94580]Here's this month's compilation of online learning opportunities. Be sure to check out the State Library's Continuing Education LibGuide<https://libguides.osl.state.or.us/conted/> throughout the month as new webinars are added to the COVID-19<https://libguides.osl.state.or.us/conted/covid19> and EDI<https://libguides.osl.state.or.us/conted/edi> sections when announced.

New in Niche Academy for Oregon library staff and volunteers:

Providing Trauma Informed Services in Rural and Small Libraries<https://my.nicheacademy.com/oregonstaff/pathway/28240>
In recent years, many have realized the importance of better understanding the effects of trauma. When the library services we provide are informed by a basic knowledge of how traumatic experiences and traumatic stress may impact the people we are serving, things are likely to turn out better. However, while more libraries are adding social workers to their staff, those in small and rural libraries may be wondering how they can adopt a trauma-informed approach, without access to the resources that a larger library or a library in an urban community may have.

In this four-part tutorial, tailored to the needs and perspective of those in libraries serving small and/or rural communities, you will learn to: define trauma; describe the long-lasting impact of adverse childhood experiences; identify ways library staff can work together to stay engaged and healthy while frequently working with people who have experienced challenges, suffering, and trauma; list symptoms of compassion fatigue; apply a trauma-informed approach to one-to-one interactions; and more.

Library Service to Patrons with Disabilities<https://my.nicheacademy.com/oregonstaff/course/27113>
Are you interested in improving library access for people with disabilities? As part of an IMLS Laura Bush 21st Century Librarian Lifelong Learning Continuing Education grant, Infopeople<http://infopeople.org/>, the Califa training arm, collaborated with Syracuse University and Project ENABLE<https://projectenable.syr.edu/> to offer training, on how to increase library access and inclusion. The training used a problem-based approach by utilizing a series of challenge and solution videos. This tutorial includes all of the videos from that training.

Providing Mental Health Information to Patrons<https://my.nicheacademy.com/oregonstaff/course/27979>
Responding to questions involving topics on mental health is challenging even for the most experienced librarian.
Emily Hamstra, Outreach Coordinator for the National Network of Libraries of Medicine, Pacific Northwest Region, will share how to effectively provide mental health information at your library. Best approaches for handling interactions with emotional patrons will also be discussed. This tutorial will increase participants' skills for providing mental health information for care providers and the public. Resources covered in this class include MedlinePlus.gov and other freely available authoritative resources. Learners will gain awareness of mental health issues; be able to respond to challenging reference questions for mental health information; and be informed of reliable (and free) resources for mental health information
