WEB TOOL - Calculate Time Zones with World Time Buddy
Novice

[time zone map]

Have you ever wanted to make a call or perhaps schedule an online meeting with someone overseas, but got confused trying to translate the time zones?

For instance, I wanted to schedule a call with a Tech-Talk reader in the Sri Lankan Parliament. Well, it's a little complicated because when it's 3:30 pm in the Eastern time zone, it's 1:00 am in Sri Lanka.

How do you suggest a time that works for both parties without pulling your hair out?

Yes, there are many time tools out there, but we found WorldTimeBuddy.com makes it so much easier than trying to manually do the math to calculate the differences.

WorldTimeBuddy.com

It's simple to use! For one-time use, just get started:

·     Go to https://www.worldtimebuddy.com<http://r20.rs6.net/tn.jsp?f=001Tzi9u75kJaWI-Z7cAhxtLfqOYQj6JNWRjNB5x7ZvJIsltm1JkzW1I-4ZSwE5ANWCX42YmbLMv238oCicgUGcOR8ydcpaoUcngMDAZ417cK3NKZll_3Wuy0zJXTmwYkqKqxneycTWuz0LDCAOpTsjomAl4YLT6zLi&c=kpggiheXbAxyxZAZ7sJg70h39Ngyh5G3NK3ddfxssdNiz2NGNRu2-g==&ch=aJHA7x1ymbWI3zHqYbLw4nAYTgVl618ZRe5bSBvNnsUSMVpGkBpbgQ==>
· On the left, click the gray "X" to remove the default (demo) locations.
· In the +Place or timezone box, type in your location.
· Add a second (or more) location by adding it to the box.
· The coordinating times in each time zone will appear.

[time zones]

Then, make a selection, and calendar/email options will appear at the top.

[select the time]

[open an email]

· You can click the Outlook/iCal or Google Calendar to schedule the event or select Gmail to open a new email message.

· There is also the option to click the Clipboard icon to copy the message invite to paste into your email tool or preferred calendar.

Create an Account

If you think you'll be using this tool a lot, sign-in to create an account that will allow you to highlight weekends, rename locations, schedule meetings/overlay calendars.

· The free level allows you to save up to four locations and create one group.

· There are paid levels for a low monthly fee to create more (or unlimited) saved locations and groups.

NOTE: As with many free websites or apps, this site is ad-supported. However, the paid level is ad-free.

[WorldTimeBuddy Mobile app]

Mobile App

Not only does WorldTimeBuddy work on desktop web browsers, but you can also download apps for both iOS (in the Apple store<http://r20.rs6.net/tn.jsp?f=001Tzi9u75kJaWI-Z7cAhxtLfqOYQj6JNWRjNB5x7ZvJIsltm1JkzW1I-4ZSwE5ANWCnUUr1nHxV2LXiTeRNxjBSZy_vOiFLf6t2-MAAak1O9Xh_HK7INQv2Uszp5qqXttFUPqZ-uQACcHshtrHy5E2OYxuU_FTcojjIjKQllU7ODEGCMHjIi7sXw==&c=kpggiheXbAxyxZAZ7sJg70h39Ngyh5G3NK3ddfxssdNiz2NGNRu2-g==&ch=aJHA7x1ymbWI3zHqYbLw4nAYTgVl618ZRe5bSBvNnsUSMVpGkBpbgQ==>) and for Android (through Google Play<http://r20.rs6.net/tn.jsp?f=001Tzi9u75kJaWI-Z7cAhxtLfqOYQj6JNWRjNB5x7ZvJIsltm1JkzW1I-4ZSwE5ANWCmUR0nMCEYaQTO5duIZomWHxHK5EwSdaK-NpC6aAaNKkH81RF63eO28Tf0HxEIrZl_150V1pwt8fDNl_C-wO9O08VjfaVoSiHO8ANMAdXcGwQkoDklCo0zzlHweA9Va2ve3kbVUeyOHgO6M5m9Jvu_ncOnoSf__Em&c=kpggiheXbAxyxZAZ7sJg70h39Ngyh5G3NK3ddfxssdNiz2NGNRu2-g==&ch=aJHA7x1ymbWI3zHqYbLw4nAYTgVl618ZRe5bSBvNnsUSMVpGkBpbgQ==>).

Communicating: Talking and Writing
Between you and ...?

Yup, I did it again. I wrote an email and started to say, "Between you and I..."

No, that isn't correct! (My high school English teacher would be quite upset. I could hear her in my head.)

It needs to be, "Between you and me..."

Yes, it's true that confusing me and I is one of the most common grammar problems speakers and writers encounter.

Both I and me are pronouns. But there's a clear difference between I and me.
· I is a subject pronoun
· Me is an object pronoun

In this case, me is the object of the preposition, between.

Sure, it may sound better to use I (because so many people do it our ears have become accustomed to it.)

But remember the difference if you want to raise your grammar use.

TIP: Watch out too for using I as the subject of the sentence: it's He and I went to the store, not Him and Me.

Leadership
How do others perceive you?

OK, here's an exercise for you. Whether you're a team leader or an individual contributor, it's always interesting to learn how others perceive you.

Here's a simple thing you can do to test the waters. (No you don't have to do a formal 360 Review ... just ask the people around you one short question.)

You want to peer at yourself from an outside perspective.

You can ask, "What is one quality you appreciate in me?"

Now of course you can use another word than "appreciate," but why not start from the positive. You may be surprised at what you hear back ... and rejoice in it.

Try it, you may like it!

TIP: If you do have a team reporting to you, you might want to ask, "What is one thing that describes my management style?"
