Please pardon the cross-posting. I shared this with the K-12 community and thought you might be interested, especially in the poetry resources available in the Gale databases.
Hi,
Yes, April is School Library Month<http://www.ala.org/aasl/advocacy/slm>, but it's also National Poetry Month<https://www.poets.org/national-poetry-month/home>.
Here's a sampling of resources to help you celebrate poetry:
* National Poetry Month poster<https://www.poets.org/national-poetry-month/form/poster-request-form>, created by a 10th grader, can download as a PDF or order a free copy
* Ideas for celebrating Poem in Your Pocket Day<https://www.poets.org/national-poetry-month/poem-your-pocket-day> on April 18th
* Kim Stafford, Oregon Poet Laureate<https://culturaltrust.org/oregon-poet-laureate/>, does visits; scroll to see 2019 engagements already on his calendar<https://culturaltrust.org/oregon-poet-laureate/calendar/>; questions: info at oregonpoetlaureate.org<mailto:info at oregonpoetlaureate.org>
* Edutopia's "6 Tips for Teaching Poetry Writing to Teens<https://www.edutopia.org/article/6-tips-teaching-poetry-writing-teens>"
* National Council of Teachers of English's Notable Poetry Books lists from 2011 - 2019<http://www2.ncte.org/awards/excellence-in-poetry-for-children-living-american-poet/>; scroll to nearly bottom of page
* Gale resources
o LitFinder has 130,000 full-text poems, many with supporting materials like explanations
? Materials<https://support.gale.com/marketing/themes/npm> related to LitFinder that support National Poetry Month, like scavenger hunts, web banners, and pre-made social media posts; see example image below
o Research In Context and Student Resources In Context each have audio files of actors reading select poems, like "Casey at the Bat<http://link.galegroup.com/apps/doc/EJ2250022151/MSIC?u=oslis&sid=MSIC&xid=e3aa0e31>" (if prompted for password, use oslis)
? One way to find those audio files: Open database // click on Advanced search // add "exploring poetry" (no quotes) in first text box // change Keyword to Publication Title // under Document Type, select Audio File // click on Search
? Get same results in Research In Context<http://go.galegroup.com/ps/i.do?st=Audios&lm=AC~y~~TY~%22Audio+file%22&searchResultsType=SingleTab&qt=PU~exploring+poetry&sw=w&ty=as&it=search&sid=MSIC&p=MSIC&s=RELEVANCE-SORT&u=oslis&v=2.1&asid=45d80503> and in Student Resources In Context<http://go.galegroup.com/ps/i.do?lm=AC~y~~TY~%22Audio+file%22&searchResultsType=MultiTab&qt=PU~exploring+poetry&sw=w&ty=as&it=search&sid=SUIC&p=SUIC&u=oslis&v=2.1&asid=f5838b36>
Have fun.
