Hello! As you know, the 2010-2011 Ready to Read Grant final reports are due December 1, 2011. Yesterday I was asked a great question about how to fill out the report and I thought many of you may have the same questions.

Question:
I am working on my final report for the Ready to Read grant. I am wondering about how to calculate the following:

If your project included programming, how many people total attended these programs? (No need to verify age, just use your best judgment)
_____ Youth ages 0-14
_____ Adults ages 15 and older

I did several monthly storytimes to daycares and Head Start, and do you want me to tally the attendance by counting the child each time I went to the site or just the number in the class just the one time?

Answer:
Short answer: Tally the attendance by counting the child each time you went to the site.

Explanation: Essentially, all you have to do is a head count at each program because for large programs/communities it’s too hard to keep track of how many times little Suzy came/didn’t come.

Example: You did 3 storytimes at Head Start:

        · 23 kids came in January
· 30 kids came in February
· 28 kids came in March
81 Youth ages 0-14 (total attended these programs)

Please let me know if you have any other questions. Final report forms are available online at: http://www.oregon.gov/OSL/LD/youthsvcs/aboutready.shtml#Forms.

Thank you,
Katie
