Hi! Now that you have your 2014-2015 Ready to Read Grant applications I want to remind you about the summer reading collection development projects you can do:

* Books and audio books to help kids prepare for next year's...

o Beverly Cleary Children's Choice Award<http://www.olaweb.org/bccca-nominees> BCCCA, 2014-2015 list

o Oregon Readers Choice Award<http://oregonreaderschoiceaward.wordpress.com/> ORCA, 2014-2015 list

o Oregon Battle of the Books<http://oboblsta.pbworks.com/w/page/53190401/OBOB_Titles_Main_Page> OBOB, 2014-2015 list

o Patricia Gallagher Picture Book Award<http://oregonread.org/2012-2013-patricia-gallagher-nominees/> Another Oregon children's choice award program. The 2014-2015 list was just announced, but it isn't on their website yet so here it is:

1. Back of the Bus by Aaron Reynolds, Illustrated by Floyd Cooper, Philomel, 2010, 978-0399250910

2. In the Wild by David Elliott, Illustrated by Holly Meade, Candlewick, 2010, 978-0763644970

3. Joha Makes a Wish: A Middle Eastern Tale by Eric A. Kimmel, Illustrated by Omar Rayyan, Marshall Cavendish Children, 2010, 978-0761455998

4. Tarra & Bella: The Elephant and Dog Who Became Best Friends by Carol Buckley (photos), Putman Juvenile, 2009, 978-0399254437

5. Three Hens and a Peacock by Lester Laminack, Illustrated by Henry Cole, Peachtree Publishers, 2011, 978-1561455645

* Books and audio books on teachers' summer reading lists at your local schools.

* Books and audio books on ALA's Association for Library Services to Children summer reading brochures: http://www.ala.org/alsc/2014-summer-reading-list.

* Any type of library materials that supports the summer reading programs, events, and activities you have planned. For example, if you have the reptile man present at one of your summer reading events, then you can buy new books and DVDs about reptiles so your display the day of the event has fresh new, exciting materials for people to check out and extend their learning at home.

* Any type of library material for children birth to 14 years old related to next year's summer reading theme. The 2015 summer reading theme is 'heroes' which includes any books about everyday heroes, historical heroes, super heroes, side-kicks, anti-heroes, mythological/fantastical heroes and more! There will be bibliographies (book lists) in the summer reading manuals you will receive in November or December, but you don't have to stick to them. You can ask your colleagues for ideas, check publisher's websites to see if they have created their own underground themed lists, and search the Internet. You might start with searching for "2015 summer reading dig into reading" on Pinterest<http://www.pinterest.com/caitybird1/children-every-hero-has-a-story2015-summer-reading/>. You'll find mostly programming and craft ideas, but you'll also find book ideas!

If you have any questions or ideas, please contact me.
