Hello!

Word has it that a Tech-Talk Newsletter a day helps keep the gremlins away so for this week, I’ll be sending out a backlog of previous newsletters (three) in addition to this week’s edition. (My apologies, I’ve been out of the office more than in, unfortunately so I’m playing catchup).

Here’s today’s issue from the backlog:

INTERNET - Finding Hidden Phone Numbers

Have you ever wanted to call a large company and discovered that you were not able to find a phone number anywhere? You may need customer service, tech support or replacement parts.

You want a real person so you can explain your specific situation or ask a unique question.

You've tried everything. You're at your wits' end. You just want to talk to a live body. You want a phone number!

Very often the larger the business, the harder it is to locate one. Sure they would like people to self-help online first, so that they can handle the more complex issues. So they don't make the phone number obvious. But it's usually there!

Here's a trick you can use that works quite well: search for the words "phone number".

Browser Search

In any browser window, type the company name and the words phone number.

If you want customer service add that too or anything specific to the kind of issue you have. In the example below, the best search result is in the 4th listing down.

Note that the phone number in the 1st listing above may solve your problem, but it is not the Igloo Corporation.

Beware of Look-a-Like Sites

The way you can tell if you have an authentic site, is to have the ".com" positioned right next to the company name. Just because the corporate word is somewhere in the address does not mean the link belongs to that company. See the example below.

You may think the phone number for Yahoo customer service is in the 2nd or 3rd item. Nope! Only the 1st listing has "yahoo.com" in it. If you call one of these non-Yahoo numbers, you may get the help you want, but there is often a charge and the folks are not official representatives of the organization.

Communications: Talking & Writing
Show appreciation

Do you regularly show and communicate appreciation to others... your colleagues, team, friends and family?

Think about the last time you paused and really expressed your gratitude for a project well done. Can you remember when someone went out of their way to do something for you and how you expressed appreciation? What about something more simple such as a colleague following up and doing what they said they were going to do ... did you recognize that effort?

Appreciation doesn't have to be a grand gesture, it can be shown simply with:

· Your words
· A pat on the back
· Eye contact
· A warm handshake
· Giving of your time

Your showing appreciation lets someone know they have value. It is uplifting.

Real appreciation is not a tactic (something we do so that we can get something back in return). It has to be pure and genuine, from the heart.
