Below are the draft meeting minutes from the January 20, 2010 CAPP
general membership meeting. Please bring your comments for change to
the February 17, 2010 CAPP meeting at Oregon Pacific Bank Conference
Room from 3:00 pm to 5:00 pm.

Child Abuse Prevention Partnership Meeting Minutes
January 20, 2010
Participants: Angela Collar, BPA; Cat Feral, UCAN VISTA; Diane
Pietrzak, DHS; Elizabeth Droscher, Phoenix School; Greg Henderson,
Oregon Pacific Bank; Karin Hardin, Healthy Start/Family Development
Center; Melody Ross, Boys & Girls Club; Pauline Martel represented by
Danny Weiser, Adapt and UP; Sally Joyce, UVDN; Harry Mullins, Drop In
Center; Pat Wafer, Roseburg School District; Kelly Southern represented
by Sherri Gould Options Counseling; Carla Bee, UCC/JOBS.
Facilitator: Elizabeth Droscher facilitated the meeting. Kelly
Southern will facilitate the February meeting.
Minutes from the December 16, 2009 meeting were approved.
Treasurer*s Report: Dede Henderson, CAPP Treasurer, was unable to be
present at the meeting. Greg Henderson reported for her that the CAPP
balance is $9,845.88, unchanged from the prior month. Dede continues to
work on signature cards.
CAPP Calendar: Elizabeth Droscher announced that agencies with April
events that need to be included on the CAPP Calendar need to send her an
email with the event particulars.

The information is needed to allow adequate time to format, print and
distribute the April Child Abuse Prevention Month calendars prior to
spring break. Elizabeth asked for input on what the group would like to
have printed on the reverse side of the calendars. There is consensus
that the 40 assets be used.
Boys and Girls Club: Melody Ross announced that the Boys and Girls
Club is planning a seminar on the 40 Development Assets for parents of
children participating in the club. The plan is to hold it in the
afternoon before their banquet. The date has not yet been finalized.
Melody asked if CAPP is interested in participating in the event. The
group expressed interest. Melody will get back with us when the date is
finalized.
Truth, Lies and Videotapes is scheduled for April 9th at Jacoby
Auditorium, UCC. Danny Weiser asked if CAPP would like to have a table
at the event. CAPP agrees to staff a table with brochures from member
agencies. Diane Pietrzak and Melody Ross will set up and staff the
table. CAPP agencies will please provide the brochures by the March
CAPP meeting.
South County Resource Fairis scheduled for March 25, 2010 form 3 to 5
pm at Forest Glen Lobby in Canyonville. Carla Bee from UCC and Debbie
Wilson, Forest Glen, are putting the fair together. CAPP agrees to set
up a display for CAPP agencies. Diane Pietrzak and Melody Ross will set
it up & staff it. DHS will set up a table with benefit information.
Child Abuse Prevention Month Rotary and CAPP Event: Greg Henderson and
Elizabeth Droscher proposed that the CAPP/Rotary Event be scheduled for
April 27 from 5:30 pm to 7:30 pm at Phoenix School. CAPP agrees. Event
discussion items:
· Potential guest speakers are Rick Wesenberg, District Attorney
and John Hanlin, Douglas County Sheriff.
· Hope is to have music maybe a cappella group or background
music
· Draft genda 5:30 start; 6 to 6:30 speakers; 6:30 to 7
networking and visiting resource tables
· Greg Henderson and Neil Hummel will handle advertisement
through Chamber newsletter mailing
· Volunteers needed to call Rotary Club and Business partners a
day or two before event. (Carla Bee offers assistance from the JOBS
participants. They helped last year & appreciate the chance to use
their customer service skills.)
· Greeters will be needed at the door.
· Greg & Elizabeth will contact media and newspaper. Greg will
talk on TV
· Business cards will be used for a drawing. Greg and Neil will
provide a basket for drawing prize.
· Rotary Clubs will be invited by Greg.
· Judy Robertson and Diane Pietrzak will work on draft criteria
to use in recognizing one organization and one individual for their
outstanding contributions to child abuse prevention efforts. We are
considering this as an annual award.
· Each CAPP agency will bring a list of people & agencies who
support kids so that we can recognize them at the event. We may do
something like a large display board.
New Business:
Douglas County Homeless Countis set for January 27th. Contact Cat

Child and Family Support Network is a new community initiative being
undertaken to provide an infrastructure for individuals and groups
interested in programs for children. The first focus is the summer food
program. Contact Cat Feral if interested. See contact info above.
At Risk Youth Services: Harry Mullins is researching potential
community interest in formalizing communication around services to at
risk youth and how to access the services. Harry expressed some ideas
around potentially meeting quarterly, having an electronic network, and
planting the seeds for such an organization. Group input included
looking at Oregon Health Go Local as the potential web based data base.
Diane invited Harry to speak to the Community Resource Networking Group
at the February 16th Meeting from 10 am to noon at Oregon Pacific Bank
Conference Room. Harry accepted the invitation.
Shots for Tots: Greg Henderson asks that everyone keep our eyes open
for the upcoming Shots for Tots event. Lynn Weaver is leading the
effort.
General CAPP Public Relations: Elizabeth Droscher is the CAPP Public
Relations Chair. She will contact Brian Prawitz to line up talk show
guests during April * Child Abuse Prevention Month. She will also seek
a time for Spotlight on Douglas County.
Next meeting is February 17th at 3:00 pm at Oregon Pacific Bank.
