Hello District 5 Child Welfare/Self-Sufficiency Staff and Community Partners,

With tax season quickly approaching, we thought it was time to share resources for tax preparation options. Here you go!!

TAX PREPARATION SERVICES & TAX CREDITS

[cid:image001.png at 01D9356E.73676190]AARP will again be offering FREE tax preparation services for individuals and families.
Please see the attached flyer for a listing of sites and information on scheduling an appointment.
Please note that the Goodwill site on Seneca in Eugene is now a VITA site, which means they will prepare taxes for families with annual gross income under 64K.

[cid:image009.jpg at 01DA5062.4AA20480]The IRS offers tools related to Earned Income Tax Credit<https://www.irs.gov/credits-deductions/individuals/earned-income-tax-credit-eitc> to help increase the number of individuals and families who access it.
Families can see if they qualify<https://www.irs.gov/credits-deductions/individuals/earned-income-tax-credit/use-the-eitc-assistant> and even learn how much they might qualify for using their EITC Assistant<https://apps.irs.gov/app/eitc>.
At EITC Central<https://www.eitc.irs.gov/>, there are tools for service providers as well. File a return with an IRS Free File product<https://apps.irs.gov/app/freeFile>.
If families want to see if they should file, the IRS provides an interactive Tax Assistant<https://www.irs.gov/help/ita/do-i-need-to-file-a-tax-return> to help.
Every situation is different, but in many cases, folks with ZERO income can file and qualify for tax credits!!

  *   File a return via our "File My Own Taxes<https://myfreetaxes.com/form/by-myself>" option for filers who earn less than $79k.
  *   File a Simplified Return with GetCTC<https://myfreetaxes.com/form/simplified-filing>.

[cid:image012.jpg at 01DA5062.4AA20480]The Oregon Department of Revenue has provided some great information to educate families on various tax benefits, including Oregon Kids Credit, Federal Earned Income Tax Credit, Oregon Earned Income Credit, and more.
