* Funding Status. Funding Wave 48 for FY 2009 will be released this week. The first funding wave for FY 2010 is awaiting FCC approval of the SLD’s procedures for this year’s reviews.
* Partial Resolution of New Eligible Services Rules. The FCC’s Order on new and/or clarified eligible services, released last December, will formally become effective in May. The comment period deadline for the associated proceeding on other eligibility issues has not been set.
* FCC Broadband and E-Rate Action Agenda. The FCC announced an ambitious calendar of rulemakings associated with the national Broadband Plan. The agenda indicates that it will issue two NPRMs for E-rate – one this quarter and one early next year.
* E-Rate Updates and Reminders. A Court of Appeals decision calls into question the FCC’s regulatory authority over Internet providers The FCC Chairman will be the sole witness at a Senate hearing on the National Broadband Plan on April 14th. USAC has suspended two more individuals convicted of defrauding the E-rate program. Reply comments on the FCC’s proposed rules to permit community usage of school Internet facilities are due April 19th.
* Schools and Libraries News Brief dated April 9 – Item 21 Attachments. Discusses the information needed to describe the four categories of products and services.
