*Celebrating the Pleasure of Food*

Monday, November 16th

Antonella Aguilera-Ruiz, Slow Food Portland

· Slow Food Portland is the Portland chapter of Slow Food, a
non-profit, member-supported organization founded in Italy in 1989 to
counteract the culture of fast food. Slow Food brings the pleasure of
taste, the rich history of tradition, the diversity of culture, and the
concern for food production together to form a unique slow food movement
that encompasses the globe.

*Connecting Farms to Schools*

Wednesday, November 18th

Amanda Oborne, Ecotrust

· Connecting small and mid-size farmers with large institutions
like schools is a major thrust of Ecotrust's food and farms work. In their
farm to school work, they partner with a wide range of school districts,
focusing on low-income schools and preschools to ensure that all children
have access to healthy, local food. Ecotrust advocates for policies that
strengthen Oregon’s agricultural economy and create local jobs.

*Genetically Modified Organisms (GMO's)*

Monday, November 30th

Sharon Wallace, Oregon Health & Science University

· Consumer health advocate Dr. Sharon Wallace will speak about
genetically modified organisms (GMOs) and their effect on the food supply.
A nursing professor at Oregon Health and Science University, Dr. Wallace is
a member of the Institute for Responsible Technology, which educates policy
makers and the public about genetically modified food and crops.

*Food Waste*

Wednesday, December 2nd

Diana Foss, Urban Gleaners

· The mission of Urban Gleaners is to help alleviate hunger by
collecting edible, surplus food that would otherwise be thrown away and
redistributing it to agencies that feed the hungry. The concept of picking
up and redistributing food is a simple weapon in the fight against hunger.
Hunger is less a problem of scarce resources but rather inefficient
distribution.
