Hello Coordinators,

HPCDP is conducting focus groups and research in preparation of launching a new communications effort, Place Matters Oregon (PMO) later this year. We hope to create a digital and social space for sustained conversation (years) with Oregonians about how the places we live, work, play and learn effect our health.

Our communications objectives are:

* Increase public awareness of and attention to health equity, risk factors and social determinants of health in daily life.

* Set the stage of discussion of policies that shape health equity, risk factors and social determinants of health.

In order to create a conversation that brings in a diverse group of Oregonians, we recognize that our research must start with communities experiencing disparities to understand values and messages that empower rather than discourage. What we gather from the initial research will help us form messages and stories that resonate with all Oregonians.

We will be conducting focus groups with four communities experiencing disparities: African Americans, Latinos, Native Americans and rural Oregonians.

Here are the scheduled focus groups for PMO:

Wednesday, July 9th, 2:30 - 4:30 pm = African Americans, Portland, VuPoint Downtown
Wednesday, July 9th, 5:30 - 7:30 pm = Latinos, Portland, VuPoint Downtown

Thursday, July 10th, 2:30 - 4:30 pm = Latinos, Portland, VuPoint Downtown

You are welcome to attend these focus groups in person. In addition, we will send out a link the day before each focus group if you wish to view the focus groups virtually. We will also be presenting the findings from these focus groups and additional research in various forums over the next 6 months.

Please let me or Shria (Shira.A.Pope at state.or.us<mailto:Shira.A.Pope at state.or.us>) know if you have any additional questions about Place Matters Oregon and the scheduled focus groups. More details on Place Matters Oregon will be forthcoming over the next couple of months.
