[HealthyTribes] Surgeon General's Call to Action on Walking: Micro-Grants Available

Dear Partners –

I hope that some of you were able to listen in on the U.S. Surgeon General’s Call to Action on Walking and Walkable Communities yesterday. A broad coalition of speakers from transportation, health care, private industry and other sectors spoke passionately about the need to create walkable communities as a key way to reduce the burden of chronic disease.

As part of yesterday’s announcement, America Walks! revealed the availability of “micro-grants” to advance walkability. While these are only available to 501(c)3 organizations, I am sharing this information because many of you have non-profit partners engaged in this work in your community. Please share, as appropriate. Stay tuned for further information on the Call to Action in coming days.

Put your feet on the ground and answer the Surgeon General's call with these funds. The program will fund 10-15 community groups for activities designed to increase local walking programming and stimulate community demand for infrastructure improvements that provide accessible, safe walkable places for the entire community.
