Father's Day-June 20th-is coming up! Now is the time to make plans to raise awareness about the impact of tobacco use on men and families in your community, as well as spark interest in and support for your tobacco control activities. There are a number of activities that you can do to celebrate dads and raise awareness about this important issue. Consider identifying a man in your community who can talk about how he successfully quit with the help of your state's tobacco control program, or even a man who is willing to share his ongoing struggle with tobacco addiction. You can partner this message with facts about tobacco use among males in your community and quit-smoking resources.
The attached factsheets contain state-specific, dad-related tobacco data that can be used for special Father's Day press releases, newspaper columns, op-eds, LTE's, etc. They can also be used to publicize and support your current or planned tobacco control efforts.
Attached updated materials include:
* Campaign for Tobacco Free Kids factsheet that provides state-specific data on tobacco use and related harms for men. The factsheet contains state-specific information on (1) current smoking rates for men, (2) smoking-attributable male deaths, (3) number of dads lost to smoking, (4) expenditures to treat men's smoking-caused health problems, as well as other information. (We use the most recent data that we are aware of. If you have more recent data for your state, please let us know so we can incorporate it into our materials.)
* A Father's Day factsheet with tips for Dads to help keep their kids from smoking.
