Hello friends,

I invite you to join me for EOCIL’s 1st Annual 2022 Eastern Oregon Pride Celebration Month.

EOCIL will be facilitating online 2-Spirit & LGBTQIA+ awareness sessions throughout June. In addition, we have partnered with many local 2-Spirit & LGBTQIA+ community organizations to organize in-person PRIDE celebrations in Ontario, La Grande, Pendleton, and The Columbia Gorge region. In some cases, these are the first-ever community Pride celebrations.

EOCIL’s 1st Annual Virtual and In-Person 2022 Pride Celebration aims to promote awareness, inclusion, greater acceptance, and support for all members of our 2-Spirit & LGBTQIA+ communities. When EOCIL began in 1997, we witnessed firsthand how our 2-Spirit & LGBTQIA+ community members, with and without disabilities, faced stigma, exclusion, and disparities. We committed to reshaping our eastern Oregon community so that our 2-Spirit & LGBTQIA+ community members did not have to move from eastern Oregon to metropolitan areas to experience inclusion, acceptance, and support. It has not been easy, and even though we have seen more communities and agencies become inclusive, we lost too many 2-Spirit & LGBTQIA+ community members to suicide, incarceration, and overdose. This year we renew the cornerstone of our advocacy efforts by adopting the philosophy “A community that excludes even ONE member is NO community at all.” – Dan Wilkins.

I have included the event program and virtual meeting links below. I hope you will join me for each session and learn how we can promote awareness, inclusion, greater acceptance, and support for all members of our 2-Spirit & LGBTQIA+ communities in Eastern Oregon.

Warmest regards and appreciation,
Kirt
