2275 Tobacco Tax Increase is coming up and this could be an opportunity
that would help with your documentation for accreditation measure 5.1.3.


Hello CLHO:

HB 2275, the tobacco tax increase introduced by Reps Greenlick and Dembrow
and Sen. Steiner-Hayward will have a hearing before the House Revenue
Committee at 9am on March 12th.

I'm letting you all know for two reasons:

1. It would be great if we could get a public health administrator to
testify on the health benefits of raising the tobacco tax and thereby
decreasing consumption.  (I'm sure I have testimony from past years that we
could tweak) Please let me know if you are interested and/or available to
testify.

*2. HB 2275 provides local public health with an opportunity to educate
legislators and policy makers on the benefits of a public health policy
that could potentially be used for meeting accreditation domain 5.1.3
- Documentation
of the health department informing policy makers and/or the public about
potential public health impacts of policies that are being considered or
are in place. *

*Erin and I have been trying to put together a "tool kit" with a list of
bills that would be ripe for some public health education, correspondence
and/or fact sheets completed by local health departments that could be used
for documentation.  However, with how fast the legislature is moving we
haven't had the opportunity yet but I wanted to let you know about this
bill. *
