Hello All,

Thank you to those who were able to join today's Accreditation Work Group
Meeting, and for everyone else - I hope to see you in July!

Today the group was excited to hear from Muriel DeLavergne-Brown that Crook
County received their reaccreditation award!

Congratulations Crook County on Reaccreditation!
Oregon now has three reaccredited health departments: Marion, Deschutes,
and Crook.

Today, we had a great discussion about engaging the community in a health
department's strategic planning process. Here are some of the ideas and
tips shared:

   - Adapt the BARHII <http://barhii.org/> assessment to fit your local
needs to assess health equity. Consider having public health staff take the
assessment along with your community partners.
   - Engage existing groups you may have such as Public Health Advisory
Boards or community groups the LPHA regularly meets with.
   - Take your strategic planning on the road: host community meetings in
different areas of your county. Crook, Josephine, Jefferson, and Clackamas
County shared examples of what community meetings could look like. Feel
free to reach out to those folks to ask questions!
   - Tip: Plan ahead for your PHAB site visit meeting that includes
community partners. PHAB reviewers *will* ask them questions.
   - Tip: Start thinking about how to sustain new community partnerships
that have formed during the COVID response (e.g. how can public health
continue to partner with the business sector).

We also discussed engaging all public health in strategic planning. PHAB
expects staff engagement beyond those in leadership roles. Here are some
ideas for how to involve staff:

   - Plan ways to incorporate staff feedback throughout the strategic
   planning process.
   - (If you can meet in-person again someday) consider meeting in a new
location outside of your usual workplace to inspire creativity and make
physical and mental space for the planning work..
   - Provide multiple ways for staff to engage: talking, writing on sticky
notes, small and large group discussions, surveys, etc.

*Stay tuned for more information about the July AWG agenda. We meet on
7/21/20 at 2:30pm*.
