Improving Oregon’s investigation, prosecution, and judicial handling of cases of child abuse and neglect
The federal Children's Justice Act (CJA)<http://www.acf.hhs.gov/programs/cb/resource/childrens-justice-act> provides grants to states to improve the investigation, prosecution and judicial handling of cases of child abuse and neglect, particularly child sexual abuse and exploitation in ways that limit additional trauma to the child victim. States are required to distribute these funds as grants for the purpose of developing, establishing and operating programs designed to improve:
Assessment and investigation of suspected child abuse and neglect cases, including cases of suspected child sexual abuse and exploitation;
Assessment and investigation of cases of child fatalities related to suspected child abuse or neglect;
Investigation and prosecution of cases of child abuse and neglect, and child sexual abuse and exploitation; and
Assessment and investigation of cases involving children with disabilities or serious health-related problems who are suspected victims of child abuse or neglect.

Releasing Trauma from the Body and the Brain
Presented by Dr. Linda Chamberlain
Course Description:
Stress has a major role in healthy human development and survival. However, chronic and overwhelming stress, in the absence of resilience skills and protective factors, can initiate a cascade of biochemical and physical changes that have far-reaching implications for brain function, self-regulation and health. There is increasing evidence to support interventions that use breath and movement to access the more primitive areas of the brain as essential tools for facilitating neurological repair and addressing how trauma and triggers are stored in the body. This workshop will share the latest science on mind-body practices and demonstrate simple, brain-based skills that help children to manage stress, self-regulate and heal from trauma.
About Our Speaker:
Dr. Linda Chamberlain is an internationally recognized keynote speaker and champion for health issues related to domestic violence, children exposed to violence, brain development and trauma, and the amazing adolescent brain. She is known for her abilities to translate science into practical information with diverse audiences and convey a message of hope and opportunity.

In all workshops, we will share our lessons learned on how your community can move forward toward greater collaboration, co-located services approaches, and effective high risk teams - that can save lives and produce better short and long-term outcomes for survivors and their children. Other conference workshop tracks will include: "Working at the Intersections of Child Abuse/Domestic Violence"; "Best Practices for Law Enforcement and Advocacy"; "Trauma Informed Systems of Care and Practice"; and "Legal Strategies for Civil and Criminal Justice Professionals."
Join a national faculty of prosecutors, law enforcement professionals, civil attorneys, doctors, nurses, advocates, mental health professionals, and researchers in an amazing three days of interaction, small group discussions, strategic thinking, and cutting edge learning!
