October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month

Domestic violence (DV) impacts people of all ages and from all walks of life. In the United States, nearly 1 in 4 women and 1 in 7 men<http://lists.icfwebservices.com/t/232456/2607769/20672/2/> have suffered from severe physical violence from a partner. To bring attention to our nation's dedication to eliminating this issue, we have observed Domestic Violence Awareness Month (DVAM) each October since 1987. Evolving from the "Day of Unity" first held in October 1981, DVAM is intended to help the nation mourn those who have been lost because of DV, celebrate those who have survived, and connect those seeking to end the violence.

Children exposed to DV can be adversely affected as well. They can feel isolated; be unable to empathize with others; and suffer other emotional, mental, and social damage. [Learning Opportunities]

Registration is now open for the annual Washington County Child Abuse MDT Training Day on Wednesday November 2nd, 2016

Topics this year include:
- The Legalization of Marijuana and Drug Endangered Children (presented by Dr. Dan Leonhardt of CARES Northwest and DDA Chris Lewman)
- Child Abuse Interviewing:  From Field to Forensic (presented by Kathy Kroeger and  Jennifer Wheeler of CARES Northwest)
- Technology and Child Abuse Investigations (presented by Mike Hanada and U.S. Attorney Paul Maloney)

This training is free to participants, and will qualify for DPSST continuing education credits.  Please fill out and return the attached registration form by October 26th  if you are interested in attending. Registration priority will be given to Washington County MDT member agencies, although other professionals working in the field of child abuse are welcome to register as space permits.  Coffee and light snacks will be provided.

Juliette's House is seeking a Nurse Practitioner (PNP or FNP) or Medical Doctor (MD or DO) to join their team of Medical Examiners on a part-time (up to16 hours/week) basis.   Headquartered in McMinnville, OR, they are the sole organization in Yamhill County providing comprehensive child abuse assessment and intervention services.  Child Abuse Medical Examiners are responsible for providing medical evaluations of children suspected to be victims of abuse or neglect. This position utilizes a multidisciplinary team approach to the evaluation of suspected child abuse, working in partnership with Forensic Interviewers, family support specialists, and community partners such as law enforcement and child protective services.
