New Resources Explore Human Trafficking and Child Welfare
Children and youth in the child welfare system are at heightened risk of being victims of human trafficking, including for sexual and labor exploitation. Traffickers may view them as exploitable due to their unstable living situations, physical distance from friends and family, and emotional vulnerability.
Child Welfare Information Gateway recently launched a suite of online resources to help child welfare professionals stay abreast of the realities of human trafficking. You can review each of the new resources below:
* Human Trafficking web section<http://lists.icfwebservices.com/t/226759/2566020/12205/2/>
Offers information on how the Administration on Children, Youth and Families is confronting
* the issue of human trafficking and supporting its victims through a variety of collaborations and efforts. It also provides comprehensive resources to help professionals identify risk factors, prevent victimization, and provide services and supports.
* "Interagency Collaboration to Address Human Trafficking<http://lists.icfwebservices.com/t/226759/2566020/20046/4/>" [Podcast]
Presents a discussion about the Miami CARES<http://lists.icfwebservices.com/t/226759/2566020/20047/7/> (Community Action Response to Exploitation and Sex Trafficking) project, a Children's Bureau grantee that is convening multiple players in the greater Miami-Dade, FL, area to forge a multipronged, systematic approach for identifying young victims of human trafficking and potential future victims.
These resources build on the Child Welfare and Human Trafficking<http://lists.icfwebservices.com/t/226759/2566020/12204/13/> issue brief that was disseminated in 2015, which explores the crossover between the child welfare field and ongoing anti-trafficking work. This brief provides background information, including highlights of Federal legislation, and discusses the needs of victims and the ways that child welfare agencies can address the problem of trafficking of children.
Also be sure to check out the Capacity Building Center for States website which provides resources<http://lists.icfwebservices.com/t/226759/2566020/20049/31/> to support public child welfare agencies' implementation of the Preventing Sex Trafficking and Strengthening Families Act.
Your feedback is important. Be sure to let us know how we're doing by taking our survey<http://lists.icfwebservices.com/t/226759/2566020/14171/32/>! New Issue Brief on Intergenerational Patterns of Child Maltreatment
A review of 3 decades of research confirms that the majority of parents who experienced childhood maltreatment will not abuse or neglect their own children. Intergenerational parenting patterns are far more complex and nuanced than originally understood.
Our new issue brief, Intergenerational Patterns of Child Maltreatment: What the Evidence Shows<http://lists.icfwebservices.com/t/226667/2091874/19569/2/>, explores theories about intergenerational patterns of maltreatment, research findings, promising prevention strategies, and areas for further research.
An accurate understanding of this issue is critical for practitioners, administrators, and others who work with children, youth, and families. Incorrect assumptions about intergenerational maltreatment could lead to screening tools and social policies that are ineffective at best-and potentially harmful. Read the issue brief on our website at https://www.childwelfare.gov/pubs/issue-briefs/intergenerational/<http://lists.icfwebservices.com/t/226667/2091874/19569/4/>.
Additional information about factors that contribute to child abuse and neglect can be found on the Child Welfare Information Gateway website at https://www.childwelfare.gov/topics/can/factors/contribute/<http://lists.icfwebservices.com/t/226667/2091874/20045/7/>.

The Oregon Health Policy Board (OHPB), a nine-member group appointed by the Governor to oversee health policy at the Oregon Health Authority (OHA), will hold a series of six community meetings across the state in September and October to gather public input about Oregon's coordinated care organizations (CCOs) and how they deliver services to Oregon's most vulnerable citizens.
OHPB members will visit communities around the state to hear input about CCOs. An on-line survey will provide an opportunity for input for those not able to attend a community meeting. Public testimony is also welcome at the OHPB's regularly scheduled board meetings. They will use comments and views collected to develop policy that will shape the future of coordinated care in Oregon.
OHPB is looking forward to continuing to partner with the Community Advisory Councils (CACs) and Regional Health Equity Coalitions (RHECs) on these meetings, and thank you for the assistance you've provided already. At this time, I am writing to you to confirm the details of the listening session to be held in your community this fall and to request your assistance in spreading the word about this event to CAC members and local advocacy organizations (see below). Thank you in advance--we are incredibly appreciative of your help!
Format: Meeting participants will be organized into small groups seated at roundtables, and will be provided questions which they will discuss in their small groups. Each participant will be asked to record their individual responses on an handout that will be collected at the end of the session.

NCCD Seeks Community Violence Prevention Program Manager. NCCD<http://www.nccdglobal.org/> has a long history of partnering with justice and social service agencies. These partnerships are focused largely on helping those who work in these systems make equitable and accurate decisions based on evidence. We believe this work is important to helping these systems function as they should.
At the same time, research has made it clear that community-based solutions and interventions [http://content.delivra.com/etapcontent/NationalCouncilonCrimeDe/newsletter/2016%20-%20July/handsin.png] have a greater positive impact for the majority of people. Meaningful system reform thus requires that we invest in prevention strategies that narrow and reduce the pathways to formal system contact. This approach means that we seek to bolster alternatives to formal system involvement, and concurrently work to transform our systems so that they function well and fairly when no other alternative is available.
NCCD is expanding its violence prevention work with the goal of promoting effective community violence prevention strategies. The job posting for Community Violence Prevention Program Manager, based in our Oakland, CA, office, presents a unique opportunity for the right person to join our team to support this work. Please click here<http://tracking.etapestry.com/t/32074947/1236193179/71432182/0/64819/> to learn more about this important role at NCCD.
