Webinar: Virtual Premier of "Creating LGBTQ-Affirming Agencies"
When:
Tuesday, January 17, 2017, 3-4:30 p.m. EST
What:
Because an increasing number of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and questioning (LGBTQ) children, youth, and families are receiving child welfare services, agencies should create an organizational culture that meets the unique needs of LGBTQ individuals. The LGBTQ-Affirming Agencies video builds State and territorial capacity to create culturally inclusive environments for LGBTQ individuals within agencies. Creating a culturally inclusive environment means developing a welcoming, culturally sensitive, supportive, and affirming agency for all-regardless of sexual orientation, gender identity, or gender expression.
This webinar will premiere the Capacity Building Center for States' "Creating LGBTQ-Affirming Agencies" video and introduce tools for creating a welcoming environment for LGBTQ individuals in child welfare agencies. Participants will have opportunities to engage in peer-to-peer discussion about the concepts shown in the video, including identifying challenges that LGBTQ families face when interacting with agencies and directly acknowledging the bias that can occur in an agency's culture and climate. The webinar will also identify strategies for facilitating internal conversations about working with LGBTQ families and address integration of affirming practices into State systems and training to create LGBTQ welcoming environments.
Who:
Presenters include Traci Tippett, Center for States Program Area Manager.
