Parenting Factsheets for Families Now Available in Spanish

Child welfare professionals face unique challenges when serving Hispanic families, such as cultural differences and language barriers. It is important for child welfare professionals to be well-equipped to serve this population. The need for Spanish-language resources has never been greater, particularly as the number of Hispanic families receiving child welfare services grows. Child Welfare Information Gateway is providing the Spanish version of three publications from our Factsheets for Families series on parenting abused children:

  * Parenting a Child Who Has Been Sexually Abused: A Guide for Foster and Adoptive Parents<http://lists.icfwebservices.com/t/255722/2720951/23078/2/> (La Crianza de un Niño que ha Sido Víctima de Abuso Sexual: Una Guía Para Padres de Crianza y Adoptivos)
  * Parenting a Child Who Has Experienced Trauma<http://lists.icfwebservices.com/t/255722/2720951/23075/4/> (La Crianza de un Niño que ha Experimentado Trauma)
  * Parenting a Child Who Has Experienced Abuse or Neglect<http://lists.icfwebservices.com/t/255722/2720951/21202/7/> (La Crianza de un Niño que ha Experimentado Abuso o Negligencia)

Child welfare professionals can use these resources to help Spanish-speaking families better understand the challenges traumatized children face and how to access relevant resources and services. More Spanish translations—mostly tip sheets and publications from our Factsheets for Families series—are available on the Information Gateway<http://lists.icfwebservices.com/t/255722/2720951/23586/13/> site.

Fundamentals of the Neurobiology of Trauma

Jan. 19, 2017, 12:00 p.m. - 1:35 p.m. (Pacific)

Regardless of whether you practice criminal law, family law, employment law, tort law, or wills & estates, you will likely encounter clients with a trauma history. Understanding the brain’s response to trauma is critical to understanding seemingly counterintuitive behavior of clients such as exaggerated fear responses, continued or re-engagement with a perpetrator, non-or delayed disclosure of victimization, flat affect, and ambivalence about participating in justice systems. In this session, Dr. Wilson will unpack the science behind these behaviors in order to arm practitioners with the fundamentals they need to better serve their clients in and out of courtroom.
