[Graphical user interface, text Description automatically generated]The National District Attorneys Association joined the National Children's Alliance's One in Ten podcast for their three-part Criminal Justice Crystal Ball series to talk about the future of prosecution and criminal justice reform<https://www.buzzsprout.com/280046/6242485-the-future-of-prosecution-criminal-justice-crystal-ball-series-part-1>. In part 3 of the series, we discussed statute of limitations reform in child sexual abuse cases<https://www.buzzsprout.com/280046/6786541-centering-survivors-in-the-law-criminal-justice-crystal-ball-part-3>, potential technological challenges that could arise and the importance of centering survivors in the law.
NDAA launched a Prosecutor Well-being Task Force back in August of this year as we work to safeguard justice through safeguarding the mental health and well-being of prosecutors around the country. The Task Force continues to put out weekly blog posts including timely ones like "8 Tools to Improve Well-being in the Midst of a Pandemic<https://ndaajustice.medium.com/8-tools-to-improve-well-being-in-the-midst-of-a-pandemic-217cd569fb86>" and "Optimizing Our Response to Stress<https://ndaajustice.medium.com/optimizing-our-response-to-stress-1e0a81d8f601>". After much deliberation, we regret to announce that we have made the difficult decision to cancel the 2021 Child Abuse & Family Violence Summit.
[Graphical user interface, text Description automatically generated]<https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4v0ArZCu7D8>
The heart of the Summit has always been about bringing people together for a week of great training, networking, and fun times. While other conferences are pursuing virtual trainings, we have determined a virtual offering does not fit with our organizational goals and the resources available to us as a local sheriff's office.
We sincerely value your continued support of this important training and we appreciate your patience as we look to 2022 to safely join together again.
If you have questions, or are interested in presenting at Summit 2022, please contact Summit Coordinator Julie Bitz by email<mailto:jbitz at clackamas.us>.

Your board of directors sets the tone and direction of your organization.
How do you build a strong, diverse, and engaged board? Once you accomplish that, how do you maintain member involvement? The Developing and Managing a Board of Directors training will provide a step-by-step guide to building an effective board, as well as offer strategies for keeping members involved and accountable. This training is intended for staff within victim service organizations who work closely with a board of directors. It is not for those who are serving on a board of directors.
The training<https://www.ovcttac.gov/views/TrainingMaterials/NVAA/EMS/index.cfm?nm=nvaa&ns=ems&nt=sgo&nf=dmbd> will be delivered online over the course of 4 weeks, beginning on January 11, 2021. Each week, except for the introductory week, will include a 75-minute facilitated webinar. In addition to attending the webinar, you can expect to spend an hour per week completing written assignments, reading, or watching videos. You will find the training schedule here<https://www.ovcttac.gov/views/TrainingMaterials/NVAA/EMS/index.cfm?nm=nvaa&ns=ems&nt=sgo>. CEUs will be awarded for this training.
Please note: Space is limited, so apply today to reserve your spot.

AND Virtually in the Comfort of Your Home or Office
Denver, Colorado
August 13-17, 2021
The National Association of Counsel for Children (NACC) is accepting abstract submissions now through March 1, 2021 (firm deadline) for our 44th National Child Welfare Law Conference.
The theme of this year's conference is From Crisis to Innovation: Toward a Family-Centered Justice System. The conference will highlight and elevate the voices of those individuals most impacted by the child welfare and delinquency systems, including youth and parents with lived expertise and those disproportionately impacted by systems involvement, particularly Black and Indigenous families.
NACC will host the conference in a dual-format: in-person at the Denver Hyatt Regency and virtually online. We very much look forward to seeing you in-person, but if it is not possible to gather in-person, the conference will be held entirely online. For this reason, NACC is seeking abstract submissions from presenters willing to present live: in-person, virtually, or in either format.
Conference sessions should be designed for a national audience, expand attendees' understanding of the law, provide practical tools and resources to support legal advocacy, and provide information and strategies for systems improvement. Specific topics of interest include:
* Prevention, early intervention, and keeping children in families, family settings, and with siblings
* Authentic youth engagement (engaging youth both inside and outside of the courtroom)
* Ethics (including conflicts, confidentiality, and privilege)
* Major federal legislation impacting child welfare and juvenile justice, such as the Family First Act
* Cross-sector presentations that address the intersections of child welfare, juvenile justice, criminal justice, poverty, and/or homelessness
* Immigration and Special Immigrant Juvenile Status
* Racial and ethnic disparities, implicit bias, and structural racism
* LGBTQIA youth and related topics, including religious freedom/faith-based LGBTQIA advocacy
* Policing, criminal justice, and child welfare
* Commercial sexual exploitation of children (CSEC)
* Trial skills
* Interstate Compact on the Placement of Children
* Substance use disorders, mental health, and co-occurring diagnoses
* Trauma-informed treatment and trauma-sensitive courtrooms/offices/practices
* Indian Child Welfare Act
* Innovative legal service delivery systems, multidisciplinary practice, and law office management
* Diversity and inclusion in the legal profession
* Policy advocacy (specific reforms and skill-building)
* Sessions geared toward Colorado practitioners (based on Colorado law and practice)
NACC strongly encourages and will evaluate diversity in abstract submissions, which includes diversity in faculty, topic areas, and geographic representation. NACC also encourages multidisciplinary faculty panels, presentations that include youth and parents formerly involved in the child welfare system, and presentations by Child Welfare Law Specialists. Each abstract submission must include:
* a description of how the session will address or impact racial equity, disparity, or underserved populations; and
* how the voices and recommendations of individuals with lived expertise will inform or be integrated into the session.
Conference faculty (up to two presenters per session) receive free conference registration. All faculty must pay for their own travel and accommodations. For more information about the abstract process contact Kristen.pisani-jacques at naccchildlaw.org<mailto:Kristen.pisani-jacques at naccchildlaw.org> All applicants will be notified of NACC's selection decisions by the end of April.
