The City of Klamath Falls recently (within the past few years) revised the Community Development Ordinance to address many concerns that resulted from an outdated and “stuffy” set of prior regulations. For example, overhanging signage that was viewable from the sidewalk was not permitted under the old code.

 

The new CDO is a bit complicated when it comes to signage, but it is effective and well-written. And the review/revision was a great process with business people involved.

Good Afternoon Oregon Main Street,

 

I’m hoping someone here can refer me to some excellent development code regarding signage in a downtown district. I’m specifically interested in encouraging tasteful, attached, non-self-illuminated signage, while banning self-illuminated boxes on poles. We’re unlikely to get rid of “legacy” signs that currently exist, but I’d like to prevent more visual pollution from popping up downtown.
