The Estacada story mirrors Harv’s story from Bandon.

City Hall underwent a landscape remodel 3 years ago and a live tree was planted that could double as a Christmas tree. Seen at the far left of the attached photo.

Also our 3rd year with a live/permanent tree. Although the xmas tree lighting ceremony/event will be “virtual” this year.  ☹

Sorry if this isn’t helpful, Lyndsey. I’m not sure how they secured the base in years past when they would cut and bring in a tree each year.

Lindsey,

Bandon used to do this and we anchored it in a large and deep hole at our visitor center. After going through the hassle of finding and cutting down and hauling in large trees year after year, GBA started a campaign to raise money to purchase a live tree.

We agreed to put up $800 if twelve investors from the community put up $200 apiece, that is tripled our commitment. With that we found a tree farm in Gresham that delivered the tree to us in Bandon.

It was a major win for us and the community as a significant minority had questioned the waste of cutting down very mature trees for what mounted to a four week celebration.

This will be our third year with a live tree.

Our local fairgrounds is hoping to install a large community tree this year.  The only problem is that they don't have one planted, they are cutting it down and bringing it in.  Do any of your towns do this, and if so, how do they secure it at the base?'
