in The Dalles in the run up to christmas lights in 2019
our holiday light string were in bad shape
so we did a fund raiser and bought new multi-colored strings at 30$ each
with the intention to have them up year round and change colors for
different holidays/events/parades
the City Manager was at first against the notion. Somehow we got traction
and subsequently established an agreement to keep them up year round.
The Dalles Main Street Program has one of the board members leading "The
Light Brigade"
a group of 5 or so volunteers that changes light colors from time to time
and replaces the failing strands.
our 30$ strings are experiencing about 15% failure rate.
So, we are now replacing as the old ones fail with new 55$ strands
we have 240 old timey style lightpoles around town on which the strands are
mounted
our initial fundraising campaign
got people to donate so that they could "Adopt a Pole"
and we put a laminated 2" x 3" card on those poles with the name of the
person they wanted to recognize
grand kids , kids, or even businesses
when we put up the strings in 2019, we had the help of the local PUD boom
trucks to get em up.
give a shout if you need more info
