Hi, Courtney!

We did a workshop at the OMS Conference back in October that explored this very idea … and we even did a temporary application of 8 bump outs at one of our downtown intersections! 😊 I’d strongly recommend reaching out to Andrew Howard at Team Better Block for advice ranging from how to build support for trying these projects, building adoption for what many will consider radical change, the specific materials to use, etc. Andrew’s email is andrew at teambetterblock.com<mailto:andrew at teambetterblock.com>. He was itching for a reason to get back out to Oregon, and likely would be very responsive in answering questions. Make sure to tell him I said hi. 😊

If you’re past all that and ready to go, we also got quotes on some burn down options for crosswalk overlays a couple years ago – may be able to dig that up too.

Cheers!
D

Subject: [OMS_MANAGERS] Painting the Crosswalks
Good Morning All,

We are exploring the idea of painting some of our downtown crosswalks here in Independence and I’m starting to research different paint/chalk options. I’m curious to hear from others who have completed a similar project in their downtowns.

We’re still trying to figure out if there’s a temporary paint option out there to test the idea before we use real paint so if anyone has tried doing something temporary for an event, I would love to hear what products you used. So far, not a lot of luck in finding info about this online. If we decide to go the paint route, I’m also curious to know about how long the paint stays “perfect” before you have to paint over it again, (the crosswalks are on a side street of our downtown, but still see quite a bit of traffic). And if there some product/technique out there that will strip/remove the paint if we don’t want to continue the project? Would love to hear any golden nuggets of wisdom from you all! 🙂

Thanks for any help!

Warmly,
Courtney
