We are now accepting session proposals for PLACES 2024!<https://preservewa.us2.list-manage.com/track/click?u=907c69b081f5ea7a5b595e058&id=0afb789474&e=6289778b99>
As our annual conference heads to Walla Walla this October, we're thinking about how we all, as place professionals, can redefine our metrics of success to prioritize social impact, community engagement, and inclusivity, and how we can all have more fun along the way as we learn, think, discover, and play.
Considering these ideas from multiple perspectives and industries, we’ve selected three questions to guide our call for proposals, and we invite you to join us in addressing or even just continuing to thoughtfully ask these questions by submitting a proposal<https://preservewa.us2.list-manage.com/track/click?u=907c69b081f5ea7a5b595e058&id=4fcc214a90&e=6289778b99> for a presentation, panel, workshop, or even a networking event. Proposals are due March 28.

Guiding Questions

  1. How can the preservation field honor intangible heritage and share stories of place, particularly in the absence of physical structures?
  2. Given the built environment’s influence on our wellbeing, what types of programs and infrastructure are needed to foster social connection and healthy communities?
  3. How can our historic neighborhoods continue to adapt in ways that encourage people to take risks, experiment, and learn together?
We also welcome submissions covering evergreen topics, including foundational preservation practices, community organizing principles, and place governance.

You can find more information on the process and timeline at the link below. If you have questions about the form or process, or if you'd like support in refining your proposal, please reach out to us.<mailto:lydia at preservewa.org?subject=PLACES%202024%20Session%20Proposal>
