Another bit of useful information, especially for non profit
organizations. A great way to benefit our unemployed volunteers.
In Oregon, the volunteer/work-hour requirement applies primarily to
individuals called *ABAWDs* (Able-Bodied Adults Without Dependents) under
the Oregon Department of Human Services (ODHS) SNAP rules.
Specifically:
-
An ABAWD must work, volunteer, or participate in approved work/training
activities for *at least 20 hours per week*, which averages to about *80
hours per month*.
-
This can include *unpaid volunteer work* (or work in exchange for
goods/services) counted toward the requirement.
-
If these hours are *not* met and no exemption applies, the individual
may only receive SNAP benefits for *3 countable months in a 3-year
period*.
