That was in "64" if my memory serves- me right.......we were pretty busy cleaning house, barns, trying to rescue hay etc, but I do believe the bridge went out that year. The ground was so frozen that the water stayed on top and just flooded everything. I had seen many floods in our areas all my life, but that year the water came from entirely different direction......

I admit my memory is not perfect so I must ask a question regarding all this weather related info-Which year did the John Day River Bridge wash out? Was that 64' or was it later? I recall that they had put the pillars in sand because they knew the dam would back up and make slack water for the area. The high water came too soon and the bridge washed away taking a dentist from Montana along. There were a couple of fatal auto accidents in the area subsequent to the washout also
