I have recently found a reference to 'Fort of the Lakes' being also called McKay's house.
The Fort was located at the head of Upper Arrow Lake on the Columbia.
The Mantle of Elias, on page 261, reports the marriage: M. 13--John McKay and Josephte Boucher. November 1, 1838. Mr. John McKay, postmaster of the Fort of the Lakes, on the Columbia River, in service to the H. B. Company, Protestant, and Josephte Boucher, Roman Catholic. Witnesses Frederic Mimi, Etienne Fortier, Andre Chalifou. Legitimating the following children: Isabelle, born January 3, 1837; William, aged about seven months. F. N. B.
Now for the question. Has anyone heard of McKay's house? Is there more information about the building of Fort of the Lakes?
