Go to _www.abebooks.com_ (http://www.abebooks.com) and do a search for the
book. You will get a listing of dealers who are selling the book. It is
often surprising how many copies of old, out-of-print books are out there. The
descriptions list condition and price. In this way you will be able to make
an educated guess about the appropriate price for this particular copy of the
book. If you don't find a copy of the book listed then that also may be an
indication that the book is somewhat rare and the selling price will rise
accordingly. The general rule is that a local history book usually sells at a
higher price in the locality about which it was written. A book about Oregon
history sitting on a shelf in a Kansas used book store is often a fraction of
the price of the same book sitting at Powell's. However, websites like
Abebooks are changing that somewhat by advertising obscure books in obscure
locations to the world at large.
