Go to _www.abebooks.com_ (http://www.abebooks.com)  and do a  search for the 
book.  You will get a listing of dealers who are selling the  book.  It is 
often surprising how many copies of old, out-of-print books  are out there.  The 
descriptions list condition and price.  In this  way you will be able to make 
an educated guess about the appropriate price for  this particular copy of the 
book.  If you don't find a copy of the book  listed then that also may be an 
indication that the book is somewhat rare and  the selling price will rise 
accordingly.  The general rule is that a local  history book usually sells at a 
higher price in the locality about which it  was written.  A book about Oregon 
history sitting on a shelf in a Kansas  used book store is often a fraction of 
the price of the same book sitting at  Powell's.  However, websites like 
Abebooks are changing that somewhat by  advertising obscure books in obscure 
locations to the world at large.
