I had relatives that traveled from Brooklyn, NY about 1863--apparently by ship, went by some means across the isthmus and then by ship up to Portland.

  But I really don't think they were ever on a boat.  Would have heard something about that over the years.    Now I am puzzled.   Maybe I will never know.
