Dolores;
The information you have there is a little cryptic for deciphering, I
suspect somewhere in the NARA online files there SHOULD be an explanation of
the forms, but as yet haven't found it, if I do it will be here, or if I
remember to look again later will post it. I am going to post a number of
"Great War" (remember when it happened it wasn't called 'World War I'"
sites that may be of interest. I had no luck searcing the net for specifics
on the 23 and 33rd engineers, the 21st seem to have hogged all the "glory"
online.

this link will take you to a list of links to maps of various battle fronts
and time frames, if we can figure out who the 25th and 33rd were attached to
you can probably follow them there.

will take you to a general military history page, with links to way more
than ANYBODY wants to know about war.

Well I have had to give up on the rest, I think E4 is a rank, somewhere
along about PVT 1st class, it is actually a pay grade rather than a rank, 5A
sound like a selective service class, possibly disabled or some such? maybe
one of the vets on here can explain that one, the only SS classes that meant
anything to me were my 2S deferment and my 1A "you're ass is our" and then
my (isn't it funny what your memory does) whatever classification I ended up
with that meant "you lucky dog, you got away form us" that enabled me to
avoid being cannon fodder.
I mean no disparagement for all who volunteered or served gladly in Vietnam,
but I had no desire to give up my life for Shell Oil.

Subject: [or-roots] Oregon War Records - Personnel Military Service Form
I went to the Salem Archives and copied four of my uncles Military records
from Word War I. Three enlisted at the same time (brothers) and were sent
to Vancouver Barracks in Washington.
I am trying to interpret some of the answers on the forms. I tried to type
it carefully as I could reading with a magnifying glass. :
Under the heading of Rank and Promotions: Distinguised service. Medals and
citations.
4 X.
Under the heading of Locations:
5A E4
Length of service Jan 31, 1918 to June 16, 1918 France.
Under Military Service:
Co. D 25th Engineers, transferred to Co. D 33rd Engineers, No. 4 Cas Def.
33rd Engineers; 28th Co 7th Bn. 151st D.B.
I would appreciate any help that I can get. Is there anyway to find out
where in France.
