Hello County and Tribal Coordinators,
The Colorectal Cancer Campaign has received some good press recently thanks to you! We are hoping to build on this recent success by generating additional media coverage for the campaign across the state using the "Oregon Faces of Colorectal Cancer" as a news hook. Thank you to everyone who has already sent in spokespeople ("faces") to be featured!
Attached is a customizable media pitch. As you know well, your media contacts will be looking for a local angle and so we strongly encourage you to send in a local spokesperson to be featured. Their stories will be shared via Facebook and the website, and will provide a great tie between the great work you are doing locally and the statewide campaign. Please send in spokespeople contact information to Kiernan Doherty at kdoherty at metgroup.com<mailto:kdoherty at metgroup.com>. Metropolitan Group will reach out to spokespeople and work directly with them to draft a story. Met Group will let you know what day your spokesperson's story will be featured so you can time the pitch.
This is an optional activity for both TPEP and Healthy Communities coordinators, and we encourage everyone to participate so that all of your communities are represented and we have as wide of reach as possible. It's also a great opportunity to continue to build or strengthen relationships with media and spokespeople/coalition members as well as to promote your Healthy Communities and CRC work. Please let either Sabrina or Kiernan know if you have any questions.
Here's a rundown of some of the recent media work:
Douglas County sent out a Healthy Worksites messages to all employees with the campaign image and messages. Additionally, John Sowell ran the attached article in the 3/8/2012 edition of The News Review of Douglas County. His blog version added a link to the campaign website: www.TheCancerYouCanPrevent.org<http://www.TheCancerYouCanPrevent.org>.
Stephen Blakesley penned the attached article for the March 1 Seaside Signal.
Two radio ads attached are from Klamath County. Their local radio station will be running a series of 60-second spots for the county health department and these will be included.
Clackamas County plan included information going out to our employees in an internal newsletter and also promotion in our Citizens News that goes out to 160,000 households later this month.
