Good Afternoon All,

Yellowhawk Tribal Health Center is excited about the opportunity to host a FREE Wisdom Warrior lay leader training August 22-26, 2016 at Tamastslikt Cultural Institute in Pendleton, Oregon.   Wisdom Warriors is a Chronic Disease Self-Management Program based on the teachings developed by Stanford University.  Wisdom Warriors is designed to empower people with different chronic health issues with education, support and tools which promote self-care, preventative care, physical activity, healthy diets, spiritual/cultural connections as well as inter-generational activities.  The week long training includes techniques to deal with problems such as;  frustration, fatigue, pain and isolation; appropriate exercise for maintaining and improving strength, flexibility, and endurance; appropriate use of medications; communicating effectively with family, friends and health professionals; nutrition; decision making and how to evaluate new treatments.  Classes are highly participative, where mutual support and success build the participants' confidence in their ability to manage their health and maintain active and fulfilling lives.

A 'poster' for advertisement as well as the training agenda and registration is attached to this email.  Spacing is limited to 24 participants.  There are 10 lodging scholarships available by request to DionneBronson at yellowhawk.org<mailto:DionneBronson at yellowhawk.org>.
